Bicycle Accident

Lawyer

Our Attorney, Guy Muller, loves cycling with his family in San Antonio. So we know the unique challenges cyclists face, and we take these cases personally.

A cyclist on a San Antonio road has the same legal right to be there as any car, truck, or SUV. Texas Transportation Code Section 551.101 gives bicyclists the rights and duties of any other vehicle operator, and that means the right to use the road, the right to occupy a lane, and the right to expect that drivers will share the road with the same care and attention they'd give any other vehicle.

When a driver passes too close, opens a door into a bike lane, turns right without checking for cyclists, or simply isn't paying attention, the cyclist absorbs the consequences. No airbags, no crumple zones, no steel cage. No protection at all other than a thin helmet (sometimes). Texas law requires drivers to pass with a safe distance (San Antonio's safe passing ordinance mandates at least three feet), to yield to cyclists when turning, and to not obstruct bike lanes. Those are legal obligations, and violating them is negligence.

San Antonio has been expanding its cycling infrastructure, the Howard W. Peak Greenway Trail System, protected bike lanes downtown, the Mission Reach trails. More people are riding here than ever before, and that means drivers have an even greater obligation to be aware of cyclists and to share the road safely.

Bicycle accident injuries are consistently among the most serious in personal injury law.

Head and brain injuries, fractured collarbones and pelvises, spinal damage, road rash requiring skin grafts, dental and facial injuries. These injuries can sideline people from work, from their fitness routines, from the joy of riding itself. For serious cyclists, losing the ability to ride is losing a piece of their identity, a community, the thing that makes them feel most alive.

We understand what it means when something you love gets taken from you by someone else's carelessness. Whether you're a weekend trail rider, a daily commuter, or a competitive cyclist, your injury matters, your recovery matters, and your case deserves a law firm who treats it that way.
